Shaffer operates with both common and contract authority, between all points in the contiguous United States. Retirement/Profit SharingShaffer Trucking contributes a portion of yearly profits to individual profit sharing accounts of every company driver. As a result of the success of Shaffer Trucking, this contribution, over time can equal more than an additional one to two cents per mile in value.
401(K) This program which is an addition to the company paid Profit Sharing allows the driver to set aside up to 15% of his or her earnings prior to the deduction of taxes. Shaffer Trucking will match a percentage of the employee's contribution. This type of program is a real benefit to company drivers that are actively planning their retirement. Combine your 401K and the Shaffer Trucking Profit Sharing Plan and you have a retirement plan second to none in the truckload industry.
Pay Scale The company offers one of the most comprehensive pay packages in the truckload industry for its qualified drivers. National Divers with one or two year’s verifiable OTR experience start at $.40 per mile. Drivers with at least 5 years experience and a stable work record can qualify for $.43 per mile. In addition, drivers are eligible for a one cent ($.01) per mile annual pay increase. Maximum base pay in the National and other Long Haul Fleets is $.48 cents per mile. Shaffer Trucking pays PRACTICAL ROUTE miles instead of short route miles.
Regional and Dedicated Fleets may operate on a slightly different starting mileage rate of pay. Training and Student programs are available for drivers with less than one year of experience. Dedicated and Team Fleet opportunities are also available. Ask your Recruiting Department Representative for details.
All drivers are paid weekly by direct deposit to their bank account or their COMDATA card and have weekly cash advances for road expenses. TRANSFLOW EXPRESS is available to scan and deliver driver trip documents to the Payroll Department within seconds after being scanned. TRANSFLOW EXPRESS is currently available at no cost to the driver at more than 350 Travel Centers across the United States.

ADDITIONAL Company Driver CompensationShag PayShag pickup and delivery of loads the driver will receive mileage pay or a shag fee or both mileage and the fee depending on the nature of the shag work.
Stop PayIf your load requires multiple stops in addition to the original pick up and the final delivery, you will receive stop pay of $30.00 per stop. Dedicated Fleet stop pay may vary.
Loading and Unloading CompensationA vast majority of freight (over 98%) is drop trailer or at a location with an unloading service so no loading or unloading is required. Where these services are requested the company will pay $.04 per case with a $75 minimum charge for a full trailer. Pallet jacking of a load on or
off the trailer pays $35.00. Dedicated Fleets or customized business arrangements may have different compensation guidelines for these services.
LumpersApproved lumper service charges will be reimbursed provided appropriate authorization is obtained by driver from the Operations Department before service is provided and provided proper receipt and related paperwork is supplied to the Payroll Department by the driver.
Layover CompensationLayover, while infrequent, may on rare occasion occur. As a Company Driver, you will be paid $100.00 per day if the layover is an operational issue other than freight availability, provided, however you have brought the layover issue to the attention of the Operations Department Managers and secured their approval. Also, if the layover is due to breakdown, a motel room will be authorized immediately. $100.00 will be authorized after the first 12 hours of layover. An additional $100.00 will be paid for each day thereafter.
Congestion FeeThe Company will pay you a City Congestion fee of $100.00 per load for any load delivered or picked up in any of the five boroughs of New York City and Long Island. For our Milesburg drivers, that fee is $50 per trip.
Referral FeeThe company will pay you referral fee of $1,000 for each qualified driver or team you refer to the company. The fee is paid $500.00 when the referred driver successfully completes Driver Orientation and $500.00 ninety days later.
Driver-Friendly Programs Family Rider PolicyShaffer Trucking has one of the more progressive rider policies in the trucking industry, allowing specific family members to ride along at no cost to the driver. Authorized passengers under the family rider policy are:
§ Spouse, which includes "common law" spouse where permitted by law;
§ Spouse and one child, foster child, stepchild or grandchild not over 18 years of age, and
§ One child, foster child, stepchild or grandchild 5 to 18 years of age.
Generally, we allow only one authorized passenger on the truck at any time except children age four or younger who must be accompanied on the truck by the driver's spouse. All authorized passengers must be cleared and authorized by the Safety Department before getting on the truck.
Home TimeWe believe it is important to get you home frequently. In the national fleet, you can expect to be away from home for 14-19 days, depending on where you live. You will earn 1 day off for every six days of driving.
Regional and dedicated fleet drivers who live in the region or where the dedicated fleet operates are generally home or through their home more often than national drivers.
Load Select PolicyAll Company Drivers, Owner/Operators, and Fleet Contractor Drivers working for Shaffer Trucking will be treated equally with respect to the dispatch of available freight. Our objectives are to provide quality service to our customers, minimize empty miles, maximize the productivity of our drivers, and efficient utilization of all available equipment.

§ The optimum match of all available freight and equipment to maximize driver and equipment productivity and minimize deadhead miles.

OrientationAs part of the employment process, all company driver employee applicants cleared for hire by Shaffer Trucking will be required to attend a two-day orientation in New Kingstown, PA, Lincoln, NE or Marietta, GA. Transportation, lodging, plus $140.00 to company drivers will be paid by the company upon successful completion of orientation.
Equipment - Assigned TractorsPremium equipment has been the standard at Shaffer Trucking. The company takes a great deal of pride in our well-maintained tractors, specified and equipped with driver comfort and efficiency in mind. Our policy of providing assigned tractors, which are set up on a 48-month trade-in cycle, insures that our professional drivers share in that pride. All tractors are equipped with state-of-the-art Qualcomm® communications devices, increasing driver efficiency and improving earning power.
Most of the company's tractors are Freightliner® Century Series conventional tractors equipped with:

E-ZPass/I-PassThe company utilizes the E-ZPass transponder for ease in paying tolls in those locations where E-ZPass is authorized. This includes the Illinois toll road where I-Pass is operational. While your truck will have an assigned E-ZPass transponder, not all travel on toll roads or turnpikes is authorized. Toll roads, and turnpikes which are authorized, are approved at time of dispatch by virtue of being included within the suggested fuel routing you receive via Qualcomm®.
24-Hour Road ServiceShaffer Trucking provides road service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the event you encounter maintenance-related issues with your tractor or trailer. This road service operates under the division title of Acklie
Maintenance Service (AMS).
Haz Mat Reimbursement(Haz Mat process must start within 45 day of employment)
The company pays its DOT qualified Company Drivers and Owner/Operators the sum of $100 to reimburse them a portion of the cost associated with securing the renewed Haz Mat endorsement. The payment is made at the time the renewed endorsement is presented to the Safety Department.
Student/Limited-Experience Company DriverShaffer Trucking also offers training for less experienced drivers. This opportunity gives inexperienced drivers between three and eight weeks of over-the-road training with a certified company driver trainer depending on their level of experience. Upon successful completion of the program, a student will be assigned a truck and begin a solo driving career. Shaffer Trucking will also accept qualified student drivers from other industry-related Professional Truck Drive Institute approved school or programs.

Minimum Qualifications1. One year OTR experience **
2. Minimum 22 years old
3. Quality experience required
4. No Felony convictions in the past ten years
5. No DUI or DWI convictions or positive drug screens in the past five years
6. Acceptable driving record
7. No major preventable accident in the past 5 years
8. A valid Class-A C.D.L. (HAZMAT endorsement is required within 45 days of employment)
9. Able to pass D.O.T. physical and drug screen test. Cost of test paid by Shaffer Trucking.
**Exceptions to the one year OTR requirement may be made on an individual basis.
