Requirements for Washington Truck Drivers

Whether you want a local job that brings you home every day, a regional job that lets you go home every few days, or OTR jobs that involve long stretches of time on the road, Washington is a great state to get started in. This state's economy requires regular shipments within the state and outside of the state.

Throughout the duration of your truck driving career, your license will be maintained by the Washington State Department of Licensing. First, you submit an application and take a Class A written test. You must take more written tests for passenger, multiple trailer, and hazardous materials endorsements. If you pass all of the tests for your license, you take your truck on the road for a three-part driving test. When you get your commercial driver's license, you just have to renew it regularly and avoid citations and felonies that can get your license suspended.

In Washington, truck driving salaries are slightly higher than national averages. The median salary for a Washington driver is $42,300 per year (O*Net, 2015).
